ALONE Support and Services for the Older Members of Our Community - Information Night - Monday 22nd May 2023.
Louth GAA County Health and Wellbeing Committee will host an information evening on Monday, May 22nd, highlighting the supports ALONE can provide to older members of the community.

ALONE, the charity that helps people age at home, is proud to partner with the GAA to deliver a unique information evening on the 22ndMay in Clan na Gael GFC, Dundalk at 7.30pm. The evening will offer ALONE the opportunity to outline the supports and services they offer to those aged over 60 while also highlighting what a club and community can do to support their older members.

Louth GAA is hosting this event as part of their involvement in the Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Programme. It is one of a series of such information sessions being hosted across the four provinces by GAA Healthy Clubs as part of a pilot between the GAA and ALONE.

ALONE offers a full suite of services to older people such as Support Coordination, Visitation Support and Befriending, Telephone Support and Befriending, Assistive Technology, and Social Prescribing. ALONE supported over 20,000 older people last year with practical supports, as well as making 165,000 support and befriending calls and beginning construction on 50 units of age-friendly housing.

ALONE CEO, Seán Moynihan commented “We are delighted to be partnering with Louth GAA to expand our network of supports into Louth. We know the pivotal role that GAA clubs play in their local community not just from a sporting point of view but from a cultural, social and economic perspective as well. Ireland’s over-65 population is going hit one million in the next ten years and it is vital that community organisations like Louth GAA are at the centre of how we support this increasing population. Our aim is to support the older person to age at home as independently and comfortably as possible.”

Larry McCarthy, Uachtarán CLG, said: “The GAA is built on the shoulders of the generations that came before us and we are delighted that our clubs are highlighting the wonderful services provided for older members of the community by ALONE, one of the GAA’s five charity partners for 2023.”

The event will take place in Clan na Gael GFC, Dundalk where there will be light refreshments served.

All are welcome on the evening.
